Meet Lois

Hello, I'm Lois. I am Anishinaabeg of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota, and I bring over four decades of experience in the Behavioral Health field. Since 1979, I have had the privilege of providing services to a diverse range of Tribal and non-tribal populations across various states. My journey has taken me through outpatient, residential, and detox programs, working with adults, adolescents, and families from many different ethnic backgrounds. I hold an MA in Addictions Counseling and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado and was previously licensed as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) in New Mexico for 13 years. My approach to therapy is rooted in universally accepted Best Practices for addressing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. However, I also deeply believe in the power of holistic healing and often incorporate native traditions such as storytelling, ceremonies, and various forms of energy work based on specific cultural practices. Throughout my career, I have trained many individuals who are now licensed counselors themselves, blending Western standard practices with Indigenous traditional approaches to healing. This integration is a cornerstone of my therapeutic philosophy, as I believe it fosters resilience, growth, and healing in a profound and culturally respectful way. As someone in recovery from addictions and complex PTSD, I understand the challenges and triumphs that come with the healing journey. My personal experiences have enriched my professional practice, allowing me to connect with clients on a deeper level. When you work with me, you can expect a compassionate, culturally sensitive, and holistic approach to therapy. Together, we will explore the paths to your healing and growth, honoring both modern therapeutic techniques and time-honored traditions. If you feel that my approach resonates with you, I invite you to reach out. Let's embark on this journey of healing and transformation together.
